Leopoldo Lares Sultan Banorte on the Philippines’ Football Future

In the Philippines, the football fever has been revived. After almost a century, the love for the sport was rekindled by a team that now represent the nation’s ability and determination to win. The Philippine Azkals relived the passion of the Filipinos for football after it began to deteriorate in the 1930s. And though many are football enthusiasts since then, it was only after the Azkals’ victory that the sport gained more popularity. And it was not only the Filipinos who noticed. Football consultant Leopoldo Lares Sultan Banorte also expressed his thoughts on the matter.

Leopoldo Lares Sultan Banorte was intrigued by the news the Azkal’s were making, especially at the Fèdèration Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) site. Lares recognized the popularity of the sport in the country in the 1930s. It, however, began to diminish as the country engaged in other sports. Moreover, the national team was not visible in the international football scene. But with the birth of a new breed, that is the Azkals, this may just change. On July 3, the Philippines’ Azkals will go against Sri Lanka team for the World Cup Qualifiers.

As with other football teams Leopoldo Lares Sultan Banorte is positive on the Azkals’ victory and rise to success. As an international football consultant and a player himself, Lares believes in the ability and passion of football players. And with the proper skills and training coupled with hardwork and determination, nothing can stop players from scoring the goal they have always wanted.
